General design rules for making sure you’ve chosen the correct size:
- Family/Living Room:
- Be sure the rug is touching or is slightly under the furniture. Try to incorporate all the seating up to or on the rug.
- Dining Room:
- Try and allow 18” – 24” of rug past the table. This will allow you to pull out the chair and still be on the rug.
- Try and allow 18” + on either side of the bed if you are centering the rug with the bed. Offset and rugs placed on an angle can look good here too.
- Entry way:
- Please make sure you have at least ½” door clearance so the door does not sweep the rug. These size guide general rules can be broken.
These are only guidelines to help you properly plan your space. Each room is unique and will require your own judgement as to what size you want. To help visualize the size, you can map out with painters tape or even fill the space in with newspapers.
